Add Quora Sharing Button on WordPress

Quora is growing fast, mainly because of the rich user-generated content. Like other social sharing buttons, I’ve came across the need of Share to Quora button.

This button can be made in WordPress.com, and WordPress.org users can also use by installing JetPack Plugin.

Go to Setting > Sharing > scroll to Sharing Button Area

Add a new service

Service name: Quora

Sharing URL: http://www.quora.com/board/bookmarklet?v=1&url=%post_url%

Icon URL: http://tweetpluslike.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/quora-icon.png

Now move your newly created button in Enables Services Area. Done!

Furthermore, if you want to create Custom URL to Share on Quora for any webpage, or pdf file. Just add the following URL

http://www.quora.com/board/bookmarklet?v=1&url=XXXX

Don’t forget to replace XXXX with your URL.

Facebook Now Let You See Edition Made to Any Comment

It is now sometime, when Facebook allowed us to edit any comment we make.

From today I’m seeing this new option, which allows anyone to see the Edition made to any comment. The feature rolls out to me today.

Here are the screen shot:

A comment, which was edited by original author.

Anyone who can see the comment, can see what changes have been made.

See the screenshot below, when I clicked on the Edited.

Earlier when Facebook allowed anyone to make edition to the comment. People sometimes were editing comments after days and weeks, so Facebook now let the followers (or anyone who can see comment) see the Edited history of the comment.

Quick Tip: Make Use of Gmail Labs

Less spam, lots of space, secure browsing and built-in chats are some of the good reasons everybody uses Gmail. But there are some not so obvious handy features which makes Gmail even super cool. Here I give you a brief summary of what these features are about and how to use them to enhance your Gmail experience.

Simply sign in to your Gmail account.

1. Click on the Setting Wheel (as shown in screenshot below), and select Settings.

Now go to Labs

From here you can enable any additional feature to improve the functions of your Gmail.

My favourite labs features are as followed:

Inbox Preview helps you see a static preview of your inbox while loading Gmail. This feature is very useful if you’re using a slow internet connection or travelling.

Mark as Read button Tired of spending all that effort to click on the more actions menu every time you want to mark messages as read without reading them? Now just enable this lab and that is just a button click away!

Sender Time Zone shows you the current time zone of the sender. The time at sender’s side shall help you determine, whether you should reply to email or just call back.

Undo Send By enabling this feature, you can stop sending an email after few seconds of hitting send button.

Unread Message Icon quickly shows you the number of unread message in your inbox by giving a quick glance at tab icon.

How to find Facebook Profile ID

Earlier we discussed how one can create Facebook username for a profile.

It is like changing your Facebook Profile URL from

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1363494049

into https://www.facebook.com/WaqasADay

But like me, if you are working to make use of some Facebook Apps or social plugin. Sometimes we need to use the profile ID and there is no simple or clear way. But here is what I found, and is how you can do it.

Go to this link: http://graph.facebook.com/username

Using this URL, you can find ID of any Facebook Profile or Page. Just add the username at the end of the link and it works like bingo.

New Changes With Tweet Button

Twitter recently made change to the design of its tweet button. In fact the new changes are not just about the update minimal design of the button. But also a hand function is added as well.

The old button, let you tweet the link of page/post. Also it showed how many times the link has been shared on twitter.

It was like this:

Taking a step further, twitter has not only improved the look of design. But also now when you click on the sharing count. It’ll take and show you all the tweets which have url of that page.

Do You Have Your Facebook Username and @facebook.com Email Address?

It is safe to say you are already on Facebook. Right? So what is Facebook username and why do you need that and what is the heck about your email address at facebook.com

Username:
When a person signs up for new Facebook account, facebook automattically create a URL of that users’ profile. That address looks like this

| https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000659400806

But Facebook gives you the option to set your own unique address for your Facebook profile. Which will look like this:

| https://www.facebook.com/WaqasADay

The above URL goes to my Facebook profile and WaqasADay is my username on Facebook. Which I can use to tell people how to find me on Facebook without sharing my email address used in Facebook account.

To set username for your Facebook profile/page go to https://www.facebook.com/username and follow the easy method.

@facebook.com address

Now you have set your Facebook username, so you can use this username as your Facebook email address. To recieve and send email. Your @facebook.com email address would be yourusername@facebook.com

In my case it is waqasaday@facebook.com

Two Quick Tips for Your Google Chrome

For 100s of known and unknown reasons, Google Chrome is my favorite web browser. It is fast, efficient and secure. Though Mozilla Firfox and some others are widely used by developers and people with strong programming background. But for an average user like me and you Google Chrome is the best.

(In case you are not already using it, you can download and install Google Chrome from here.)

So you have Google Chrome now, here is what to do next to get most out of it:

1. GETTING SETTINGS DONE

This mean to set your personal settings to run and operate Chrome in your way.

Click on the wrench in right, Options > Basics

Now look at Home page section, if you use a particular website too often or almost every time you get online. Then add your favorite link in there. I have Google.com as my homepage, because in single click it leads me to Gmail, Docs, Readers and other useful products of Google. You may also add Facebook or whats so ever.

In Tool bar area, select Show Home Button, so that with one click on any opened page you can go to your homepage (favorite page).

Now on top left click on Personal Stuff (under Basics), here look at password area, if your computer/laptop is used by people other then you then select Never Save Password. It’ll keep everyone’s password safer.

Now navigate to Under the Hood, you should come back here after every two weeks are so, to clear browsing history of your browser. This is mainly because it effects/change search results of your quarries on major search engines.

2. EXTENTIONS

There are thousands of extensions and applications available in Chrome Apps Store. Which increase the usability of Google Chrom, by Google and other developers.

My favorite two are:

AdBlock This extension blocks flash and text adds on almost all website. Which means you can keep yourself away from the messages we usually don’t want to see. You can install this extension from here. Just click on the Add to Chrome button

Google Dictionary As the name says, this extention dictionary helps you view definitions easily as you go through different web pages.
1) Double-click any word to view its definition in a small pop-up bubble. View the complete definition of any word or phrase using the toolbar dictionary. 2) Foreign words are automatically translated to your language of choice.

These two recommendations can might look simple to you, but I find them very useful every time when I am on Google Chrome.

How to Create Tag Cloud or Word Cloud Using Wordle.net

Tag cloud (or word cloud) is an interesting way to visualize your text data. Tags are usually single words and the importance of each word is shown with font size and its color. On web, bloggers often use tag clouds to list their skills or type of content they create.

It is surprisingly simple to create tag clouds using online software. The one which I use and trust is Wordle.net

One can easily create tag cloud, just by adding words in Create box and get it.

You may also randomly select combination of different fonts and colors and text alignment. More, you can customize it. To change the size of your tag, just click on the “Open in new tab.” Size of a word is determined by how many time it is entered at first. Go, try it yourself, it is super easy.

If you are a small business owner and want to make a free website as for your internal team, then Google Sites is the way to go. I have seen many teachers for their classes and students clubs are using Google Sites to make such website for internal communication.

Google Sites are free, very easy to create and use, trust worthy.

Best of all, you can control, who can view, or edit sites. Teacher share daily lessons, class notes and other material. Small business use them to discuss product growth etc.

To create a Google Sites, you should use a Google/Gmail account.

When you make a free site, its URL looks like: http://sites.google.com/site/yourorgname

Here is a video which explain how easy it is to create and use Google Sites.

But if you own a domain (or buy from Google) you can also use that on your website as well. But that is if you want an official website for your small business or community.

There is tons of help available on internet to help you get start and efficently use Google Sites. Here I my recommendations:
